I've been experimenting with different sugar scrub recipes and since I've never tried any sugar scrubs other than my own, I'm not sure if what I'm feeling from them is normal or if I should keep experimenting!
I've been making up my own "moisturizing" recipes using a mixture of oils, butters, a preservative and emulsifier mixed with sugar. I don't want to use a foaming soap base because I actually like how my skin feels soft and smooth after using ones made with oils (and I think the soapy base would wash that away). I don't feel greasy when I come out of the shower, just moisturized and smooth.... it's nice! BUT - I do notice that I feel a bit "sticky" until my skin completely dries. I've been washing with soap first and THEN using the scrub and rinsing it off well. Should I be doing it the other way around and washing with soap after the scrub, to be sure all the sugar is washed off and my skin isn't left sticky? I didn't really want to do that because I feel like washing with soap would just rinse away all the yummy oils I just rubbed into my skin!
As soon as my skin dries it feels really nice and smooth.... I love it! But until it completely dries I feel a bit tacky. There's no sticky residue or anything - my skin just feels tacky in areas where it touches - like in the bend of my arm and under my boobs (hehe!) It feels this way until I am totally dry (about 15 mins after I shower).
Is this normal? How should a sugar scrub feel? Do you make your scrubs with oils or a foamy soap base? I'm planning on selling my scrubs along with my other products on my website, and even though I like them (besides that little bit of stickyness which I will combat before selling!) I don't really know what other people expect.
