Sorry for the vague thread title, but I started out with the gateway drug, melt and pour, and had some bad experiences with some of my favorite real-life scents.
Ginger scorched so badly in the hot soap I dumped the whole bottle before I figured out it was a temperature issue. The other one I love is basil, but it smells like a pig's behind in MP, so I've been reluctant to soap properly with it.
Has anyone soaped with either of these and can I trust them in cp?

I use basil eo with a few citrus eo's. It's a great pair. But basil is really strong. My last "citrus basil" batch I used 20% basil and the rest were citrus eo's. The basil was still to strong.

Thank you, HappyHome. Does the basil smell like basil? It's one of my favorite scents in the world and I don't want to waste soap and be let down.

I think you are going to find most EO's have a strong earthy scent to them. - They do smell different in various soap mediums. I find they are stronger in M&P and can use in significantly smaller amts.

In my therapy blends, 90% contain tea tree oil which for me smells horrible so I have to combine with others. Lavender 40/42 is a little "sweeter", and lemongrass always helps. Clary-sage for me is not as strong as basil.

Check out the essential oil, palmarosa. It is related to the tea tree family but it is stronger in its properties. However, it has a very nice lemony-floral scent. I mix it with lavender too. And many other things as well.
