Not sure if I'm posting in the right forum, but I was interested in trying to make myself some roll-on fragrance combination's using FO's.
I was wondering what the FO needs to be mixed with? Is it another oil, like a grapeseed, or an alcohol? I've tried searching and I can't seem to find any sort of recipes. Can anyone give me a clue? Thanks!!

You will need a carrier oil. Sweet almond oil is a good one. That and your eo's. :D

I've used sweet almond as Jezzy suggested but found I prefer a mixture of jojoba, cyclomethicone and FO. The cyclomethicone adds so much; it makes it absorb more quickly, lessens the greasiness, adds a dry, powdery feel, and it evaporates quickly.

Thanks so much for the info. Since I've started making soap, there are some fragrance's that I've mixed that I would love to create in a roll-on formula. I read about mixing the oils with 'perfumers alcohol' or vodka, but wasn't sure if that was something required for a roll-on type of application, so thanks for clearing things up for me.

The main thing is you will have to test it out in your roller ball. Depending on how tight the ball fits in the top, certain oils will be more or less likely to leak out around the ball. I messed with them a bit (about 10 years ago). Everything I tried leaked & caused huge oily messes so I skipped the roller ball & went for a standard bottle.

Gotcha, ok good to know. I liked the idea of the roller-ball for its simplicity, but didn't even consider that it may be messy. I will have to find a supplier where I can only purchase only one or two roller-ball bottles (as opposed to a gross, lol)
So, the mixture is still just the FO and a carrier oil for the standard bottle then, too?

Once you find sa roler ball & recipe you like, you will want to stick with it too. If your switch suppliers to might not translate the same.

I bought mine at Elements Bath & Body and have been very satisfied with them. They come in several colors (clear, black, blue & green) and you don't have to order a huge amount, unlike some suppliers. The little roller ball is encased in a plastic housing that snaps onto the top of the bottle and can be gently pryed off to refill the bottle. I've not had any leakage problems. Could be just good luck but that doesn't often happen in my case

You can also use fractionated coconut oil as a carrier since it's light weight and doesn't have a scent.

ETA: FCO is also non-staining.

WSP also has them and you can buy them individually if you only want a few to try out. Since WSP's shipping is included in the price, you'd have to check out what Elements' shipping might be for a few bottles for a price comparison.

I use either FCO or jojoba for my roll on perfumes. Now I'll just FCO since jojoba is soooo expensive. I got my roll on's from lotioncrafter and they're great. Haven't had one leak on me yet *knock on wood*. I also like their little 8ml sprayers. Great to keep in my purse. For the sprayers I use cyclo and FO (some separate but a quick shake fixes that). Those are also great for keeping in my purse.
