Hi all, I have seen a post on here before but now that I need it I cannot locate it. I am looking to tweak a 3lb recipe to a 4 lbs recipe. I have the measurements in grams, and ounces. I am trying to figure out the percents of the oils and butters so I can put it thru a soapcalculator to make a larger recipe. The recipe is from The Soapmakers Companion by Susan Cavitch. It is the white choc mousse...it is as follows...
187.5g lye
1lb 3oz dist h20
11oz oo
8 0z jojoba
1lb co
8oz cocoa butter
8 oz palm
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Convert all of your oils to ounces, add them all up and then divide each number by the total. That will give you the percent of each. I came up with a total of 51 ounces.
11 oz oo/51 = .2156, move the decimal point two places to the right to get 21.56%
8 oz jojoba/51 = .156 move decimal point two places to the right to get 15.6%
16 oz co/51 = .313 move decimal point two places to the right to get 31.3%
8 oz cocoa butter/51 = .156 or 15.65%
8 oz palm/51 = .156 or 15.6%
You then need to round each percent off
I would probably round off the olive oil to 22%, the jojoba to 16%, the coconut oil to 30%, coco butter to 16% and the palm to 16% just because I don't like to go much above 30% for my coconut oil.

Lazy person's way of figuring percents - convert all the oils to ounces and then enter it all into SoapCalc. Click on the "calculate recipe" button and let SoapCalc do the math.

heh, where is the "like" button whne you need it?

Thanks so much! I think I am going to try both and then decide-lol.
I plan on doing this recipe with choc lovers type by NG. I plan not
using FO on some and use it on top like frosting. Anticipating it turn
brown... with white frosting...I've never used jojoba oil or cocoa butter in
soap- this should be fun...and very good for the skin
Thanks again

ok did some research of jojoba oil and because of the price I have decided to save this oil for message bar and lotions bars.
But, I have been playing around with the soapcalc (I really want to use the cocoa butter I have) and came up with this recipe.
This is my first recipe that I created...
all in ounces

lye 4.52
water 12.16

almond oil 10%
cocoa butter 10%
coconut 25%
olive 35%
palm 17%
castor 3%
