Not sure if this is the right location for this question...
I've tried two batches of hot process soap. One recipe I got from kebrown's tutorial on u tube. The other is my regular recipe for Cold process, which is an Olive oil, Coconut oil, Castor oil mix, which has always worked well.

The question is... why does the soap smell bad?!! It smells like old oil. The first try was with lard, and I thought that might be the issue, but on trying it second time around with my tried and true recipe, it still smells bad.
I'm exaggerating the smell somewhat, but it doesn't smell GOOD! I didn't use any scent to speak of in the recipes as I was just trying out the process.

Anybody have any experience with this?

Sorry just saw this , soap mellows out as it ages , it is amazing that it can smell so bad fresh and so good cured . :D

Thanks for your reply KITN, (as there were no others!).
I did have time to find out on my own that what you say is correct - in just a few more days, the soap smelled much better. :) I'm so much happier now.
