I did a test batch of a pink champagne and mallow root soap, thinking "omg this is gonna be epic" but OMG, it was an epic mess! I didn't know mallow root wasn't white like marshmallows untill I opened it for this recipe. Silly me.. marshamallows arent even made with mallow. I mixed the mallow root powder with the champagne untill it was this gelatinous stuff, like before soap reaches light trace, then mixed it with lye. The lye did something weird, the crystals turned bright RED and the mixture into a burnt sienna color from the grayish dirt color. What a waste of 16oz of pink champagne. I ended up having to rebatch b/c of packing into the mold too cold... It didn't smell of mallow root or champagne at all; I turned it into a vanilla bar with vanilla EO and vanilla bean paste during rebatch. Arg. I wonder HOW I could incorporate this combination into one bar of soap. I have a feeling using both as the water-lye mixture might have *******ized them. The lye crystals stuck to the mallow root and made globs.. bright red glowing globs that bled yellow ooze (wtf?). I had to strain it when adding to the oils.
