Hello!

My name is Tiffany and I'm a soap making newb. I've started this hobby out of necessity, but am having WAAAAYYY TOOO Much fun!!!

My go-to body products have always been from Bath and Body works. Since I have senstive skin and an allergy to tree nuts, it was the safest/most consistent place to go. Some time in the last year, they have changed their formula, increasing the amount of glycol used, and now their shower gel makes me break out in blisters. I spent WEEKS reading ingredients and labels and trying products off of Etsy to try to find something that will work and be as consistent.. with zero luck. So I figured, I'm an engineer, I can figure this stuff out.

I've made about 6 batches of CP soap, a few bath bombs, and the greatest body butter on the planet (in my opinion). I'm trying to get my friends to make requests and pick out challenging new things for to try, but for some reason they don't find soap making very interesting....

If anyone has any fun recipes or tutorials please send them my way, I WANT TO LEARN ALL OF THE THINGS!

Welcome, Tiffany!

Like Toxicon said, our forum is loaded with lots of good/trustworthy info and recipes. Several recipes/turorials can be found in our tutorial section here, and there's also a ton of others scattered throughout other parts of the forum (you'll have to make friends with the search engine to find them). Here's just a tiny sampling that I scrounged up to start you off with:

Susie's Liquid soap: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=49852&highlight=cold

IrishLass's (my) Liquid soap (start at post #8 ): http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=46114

Genny's Shampoo bar: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=30946

Songwind's shave soap: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=34264&highlight=shave

Dual lye shave soap: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=47002&highlight=Naoh

The following link does not lead to a recipe/tutorial, but it is a fascinating and excellent treatise by our DeeAnna on what goes on inside soap during cure (posts 51-55): http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?p=634104#post634104

I'm an engineer too! Welcome! What types of things are you wanting to experiment with? I find lots of recipes on The Spruce, Soap Queen, and Loving Soap. Have fun!

What's really gotten my attention are the crazy colors and swirl patterns I see out there. Like the spin swirl and Taiwan swirl I've seen on Soapqueen. I've built my own mold dividers and hanger tool (Although my dividers suck, I need to make new ones). I got the vibrance set of micas from NurtureSoap. I also would like to get into like.. a themed soap of the month project every month. I was eyeing up the Emerald swirl tutorial on Soapqueen and thought coming up with a birthstone theme + scent for each month would be a fun way to learn my way around all my colors and smells.

Another goal of mine: https://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/gold-mine-cold-process-soap-tutorial/

I also want to get into some clear M&P projects, but that may be further down the learning line.

Glitter... glitter on all of the things.... Glitters and colors everywhere.. I like bright shiny things and am easily amused. Oh! I'd love to learn to make a shimmer lotion..
