Hi I was making lip balms with my son on thanksgiving, and got bit by this crafting bug. I have been making a ton of lotion bars, lip balms, and now that I have a new 8 quart crookpot my wife is letting my take her old work horse from her for HP. I am hoping to do some cold press when I can get more space that a 3 year old will not try to run off and hide my curing soap.
I just can't wait till I go get some lye sometime in the next few days from the hardware store.

Hey and welcome! Lip balm was my gateway product also that led me down the soaping road. Serious addiction making stuff.

A couple of words of caution that I am sure are unnecessary:

1. Be sure that is 100% lye(sodium hydroxide). Some places are adding other stuff now to keep people from making bad stuff with it.
2. Be sure that 3 year old is at day care or taking a nap while you are making soap. Too many bad things can happen with kids and lye.

South Dakota, and I understand with the lye. I got melt and pour for him and I to do our thing with, and will keep the lye away from him. Carabou I have heard my state just might be colder then your state this year......

I sure don't miss cold SD winters. I've lived in a lot of places, but the coldest winter by far was Sioux Falls. Anchorage's winter is longer and darker, but certainly not colder in the 8 winters I've been here (compared to 18 there long ago, and 5 in Custer more recently). So stay warm, pb, and have fun soaping!
