I just got my shipment and boy is hemp oil green! I've done a search and found out that I need to keep it under 10-15%. Also found out that it has a very short shelf life 30 days, so it's in the freezer!

What I didn't find the answer to is how the green affects the overall color of the base. I want to make a psychedelic swirl with several colors, but I did want to keep some white/cream color. Does anyone have experience with working with hemp oil?

I haven't yet used it in soap, but I use it to wash my face (with the oil cleansing method). Just thought I'd let you know it has a VERY nutty scent. Please keep us informed with how it behaves in your soap. I'm so curious because I love hemp oil on my face so I have high hopes for it in soap.

I have used hemp oil in a few of my last batches. I also tend to use extra virgin olive oil which is about as green as hemp oil. From my experience if it a low percentage, maybe less than 30%, the green tends to go away during the processing. I did not use hemp in my last batch but did use 25% ev olive oil. The greenness was overpowered by the yellow and white fats and oils and had a light butter color when I poured it in the mold. The next day that color had faded and the finished soap is quite white. I would think you could also use titanium dioxide to cover any color that remained.

I did a soap with CO (4), hemp (13), lard (70), shea (12), castor (1). I wanted to try a technique I had seen in a Youtube video and it was an experimental recipe so it was a small batch, only 10 oz of oils. My hemp was quite green so I added 1/4 teaspoon TD to it. After mixing, it still looked pretty dark so after I divided it (about 50/50), I added another 1/4 teaspoon to one part and a grape colored pigment to the other part. Of course, after it was in I began to second guess myself and I was certain that I had added too much TD and my soap would be ruined. I wish I had taken a picture of the way it looked in the mold, the top looked really weird, I don't even know how to describe it, it reminded me of photos of the surface of the moon and then I was REALLY certain I had ruined it, but it turned out fine. It came out a very rich looking cream color and I am happy with it, just looking at it makes you certain the lather from it will feel wonderful.
