This was just something I stumbled on today while reading through the forums and remembered your question. I think hemp does have a pretty short shelf life and a lot of people avoid using it in lotions altogether because it goes rancid quickly.

I use it in soap and can keep it no longer than six months as it then starts to get dos. Body shop did a hemp cream once upon a time, wonder if that range is still available I haven't been into a bodyshop for such a long time. I do have a recipe for Hemp now it uses Hemp at 4% and Phenoserve and Rosemary Oleoresin Extract are added. PM me if you would like the recipe to test. I have not made it yet so cannot comment but hey if the bodyshop can do it then so can we :D But goatsmilk and hemp may make it just that little more suseptable

I'm not sure if this would help but what about trying hemp milk instead of hemp oil? At least you'd have a hemp product in it and it might have a longer shelf life.

Hemp milk is from hemp seeds which have been soaked and blended in water. I've bought it in grocery stores.

You can make your own hemp milk just like if you were making oatmeal or almond milk. Here's an article about making nut milk which will give you the approximate proportions. Leave out all the extras and use only distilled water and hemp seeds. You may have to experiment a bit.

You could also look on youtube because I know there's some videos on making nut milk, etc.

However, I'm not sure of the shelf life of hemp milk. I think it would possibly more stable than oil but I don't know for sure. I'd hate to see you pass on the chance for this account without exploring a different option.

I remember seeing hemp lotion in a store. I think there has to be something which would help extend the shelf life since it was being sold. I don't remember which company manufactured it. I'll try to get over there this weekend and do some snooping. Maybe I can find out something which might help you.

I don't know if this helps or not, but aquatech skincare sells a hemp lotion. Maybe you can take a gander at the ingredients and see if it's something you can maybe duplicate?

That's a good idea about looking at Aquatech's. I looked online for the store and found the hemp lotion. It did list the ingredients.

WATER ,GLYCERIN ,COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL ,STEARIC ACID ,CANNABIS SATIVA SEED OIL ,ALUMINUM STARCH OCTENYLSUCCINATE ,CETYL ALCOHOL ,CETEARYL ALCOHOL ,POLYSORBATE 60 ,TOCOPHERYL ACETATE ,PANTHENOL ,SESAMUM INDICUM (SESAME) SEED OIL ,SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL ,HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL ,OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) FRUIT OIL ,MELALEUCA ALTERNIFOLIA (TEA TREE) LEAF O ,CAMELLIA OLEIFERA LEAF EXTRACT ,CALENDULA OFFICINALIS EXTRACT ,CYCLOMETHICONE ,DIMETHICONE ,TETRASODIUM EDTA ,TRIETHANOLAMINE ,CARBOMER ,PROPYLENE GLYCOL ,DIAZOLIDINYL UREA ,METHYLPARABEN ,PROPYLPARABEN ,BHT ,FRAGRANCE ,CITRIC ACID

Nothing really stood out except for the BHT which might be what helps to extend the shelf life.

However, I remember there were some concern about BHT but I don't if there really is a problem or if it was scaremongering.

I don't use hemp oil anymore because of the short shelf life and the strong smell. It just goes off so quickly! I would make the product but definitely include more stable oils and plenty of antioxidants. Maybe you can explain to this guy why the other oils benefit skin. The average consumer isn't concerned about hemp being the only oil when they buy a hemp product; it probably wouldn't even occur to them. Good luck with this!

Looks like Aquatech changed their formula for the hemp lotion. Their website now states the ingredients as:
98% Natural Ingredients: Deionized Water, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp Seed) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Trigliceride, Emulsifying Wax NF, Vegetable Glycerine, Stearic Acid, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract (Chamomile), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Camellia Sinensis (Japanese Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Cetyl Alchol (Fatty Acid), Glyceryl Monostearate, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol (Optiphen®).

Has anyone used both and is there much difference? TIA

Talked with aquatech today and the shelf life of the hemp lotion, they said, was 2 1/2 years.
