So I have spent all day looking through the board and still can't find the answer.
The question is: When on Soapcalc and I adjust my superfat from the default of 5% to say 8% The default water% is 38 why when I change that number it doesn't change my water or lye amount? Should I only be doing one or the other? It's late, I'm blurry eyed, and confused. Does this make any sense?

The superfat change will only affect your lye amount . It won't change much going from 5 to 8 %. I did one tonight and upped the superfat 4% , the change in the lye was very very small.
Water amount has nothing to do with your superfat , you can discount your water , but it totally a different thing .

Superfat alters the amount of excess oil after saponification, the water alters the Lye strength ..

And though it's the default 38 is too much liquid so it's recommended to set the concentration at 33% minimum ;)

Can be confusing eh?

When the top box is selected(well,it's soapcalcs default,so you don't actually select it,it's 'unselected' when you tick a different box)what you have is water as a % of the oil weight.. So changing the superfat% won't change the amount of water.
If the 2nd box is selected, you have water calculated according to the amount of lye. ie: you want lye to make up 33% of the lye/water sltn. So changing sf will change the water amt.

Yes,I know,clear as mud! LoL

Changing sf% will definitely change the lye amt.Sometimes soapcalc takes a couple tries of view/print to actually change to the new calculation, praps that's why you can't see it. :?

I agree with this with one exception....

the default water will buy you some time with some really stubborn fragrance oils....the soap on a stick specials.

That it will Mike , I always use full water if I have any doubts about the FO behaving itself .
