We have castor oil, coconut oil , lye, olive oil and goats milk whats a good recipe for what I have

Honestly, you have a good starting point but I would encourage maybe a palm, tallow or lard with what you have to round it out.

You can make a good Bastille with what you have but it will need a long cure so as a newbie you probably don't want to wait that long to use your new soap.

You can find a good Bastille recipe using goat's milk on Soap Queen, search for baby bastille. Otherwise I would encourage you to familiarize yourself with a good lye calculator. I like soapcalc myself but there are others out there for you to plug in how much oils and it tells you how much lye.

Good luck!

Hi otterbend88 & welcome! If this is your first batch of soap I would not include the goats milk. It can be a bit tricky so just stick with water for now. If you have sensitive skin, coconut oil can be a bit drying so use it at 20%. Castor oil is nice for bubbles but can make the soap a bit sticky so try 5%. The rest will be olive oil which is 75%. You can certainly play with these percentages and make a soap that will suit you, your skin type and your preferences. But first and foremost use an online lye calculator. Use it every time you change the smallest thing so you ensure the safety of your soap. Here's the one I use and is very popular. Good luck!

This is what I would make if I only had those oils on hand:

Olive oil 70%
Coconut oil 25%
Castor oil 5%

...and I would superfat it at 5% or 6%

This makes for a great Castile-type soap.

IrishLass :)

^^^ this recipe. I've made it and it works very well and makes a nice soap. Except I upped the SF to 7 or 8% cause I have dry skin.

It's our 4th batch :)

We have real goats milk from our goats our soaps cure for 4 weeks normally

I have 3 soap calc on my phone I love using them

I'm with Susie. If you're not adverse to animal fats, lard would be a good addition and is readily available at most grocery stores.

We just bought shortening which is high in Palm oil

That will be a good addition - what shortening is it? It's important because the mix of oils will require a certain amount of lye. My 'palm' that I buy is 80% palm and 20 rapeseed, which effects the lye amount when I use a lot of it.

I would go for:

40% shortening
35% OO
20% CO
5% castor
