I found these on some soaps I made 12/26. They aren't orange but they are spots that look reminiscent of the DOS pictures. I used Cool Citrus Basil FO, and I've had some mauve/pinkish discoloration with that before but not in dots. I can see some of that color deeper within the bar. They've been out on a drying rack, open circulation, temps around 55-60 and humidity (I've got my dehumidifiers running) between 35-40%. SF 5% and used OO, CO, PO and Castor.

I know they aren't super obvious and they aren't orange, but I don't want to convince myself that they're not DOS if they are. The soap still smells good and I can't think of an obvious reason they would develop. What do you think?

IME DOS really is orange. yellow when it starts out. I've not seen pink DOS.

I can't tell much with my computer screen, but if they're not yellowish/orangeish, I'd guess it was some other discoloration problem. Did you use distilled water? It sounds like everything you're doing is fine, but using regular tap water can sometimes lead to DOS. Well, supposedly it can. Sometimes it seems you could do everything perfectly and still have them show up for reasons you'll never know. Boo, DOS! Just remember - you can still use the soap if they are DOS. It's just aesthetically unpleasant.

Thanks for your responses. I did use distilled water. They are hard to see but don't look orange or yellow. They look a bit brownish but not the mauve that has happened in deeper in the bar. Throws me off.
