I decided it is finally time for an introduction. :)

My name is Karen, I live in northeast Vermont. We have a small hobby farm, and 3 girls under 6.

I have been making soap (cold process) now for 3 years, and lurking on this forum for quite a while.

I started out making soap for myself, then for gifts. A few months ago I began selling soaps to friends, mostly because I had enough soap to last several lifetimes! I'm preparing now for my first craft fair in November, which is nerve wracking to say the least.

I want to thank everyone for everything that has been shared on this site, it is such a great resource. I'm especially glad that I stumbled upon the idea of pine tar soap. I have horrible ezcema, so i made some for my personal use and it has really helped me. I think the best part of making soap is being able to customize recipes for my family.

Hello! What a great introduction! I've never used pine tar soap. How is your eczema now? Mine flares up in the winter time and I am thinking I should try some out.

Mine usually only flares up in the winter as well, but a few weeks ago it was bad. Mine is on my right hand generally, and gets to the point of cracking and bleeding, swelling, and makes it so I basically can't use my hand. It wasn't quite to that point, but I started using the soap on it and it cleared right up within a couple days. I can't say for sure if it was the soap or a change in the weather, but I have never seen it clear up so fast. I have tried every cream there is, including prescriptions like steroid creams. I am looking forward to seeing how it helps this winter. :) you really should try it, it doesn't smell the greatest, but that doesn't matter to me as long as it works!

Hi Karen,

A belated welcome to the forum! I'm glad you've found the site helpful and you've made something which helps your eczema. Best of luck with the craft show! Have you checked through the Craft Fairs & Shows section to see if there are any helpful threads about doing shows?

Thanks! I think I have read every last post in the craft fair section. :) got some good ideas for set ups, and am going to order a couple tablecloths from a link someone posted. I have packaging and labels that i am happy with now. I think I'm the most nervous about talking to people, I am an introvert, so being in a crowd of people that I don't know doesn't appeal to me much. But I love my soaps and would like to get them out there, so a craft fair is the way to go, seems like a safe first step. :)

I can relate to being nervous about talking to people. I'm the same way. Do you have a friend who would go with you? I sometimes go with my sister to shows since it's easier to have someone to help and watch the table for restroom breaks. It's even better if the other person is gregarious and loves to talk.

If my husband is off and we can find someone to watch the kids, he may come with me. He is really outgoing and great with people. i think my friend is planning on having a table as well, if not, I'll try to get her to come . having someone with me sounds like the best way to do it.

We've lived here 7 years now, the NEK really is a beautiful place to live.
