Hi everyone. I am very new to soap making and am just about ready to make my first batch of CP soap. I am going very basic and not using color or FO's for now. I have read a few books already, highly recommended ones at that, and I was wondering.... when measuring out my oils- especially coconut and things like Shea butter- do I measure the MELTED liquid amount? or the amount before I have placed in the my broiler?

Sorry if this is a super basic question but it wasn't even specific in the soap making books I read.

I always weigh everything. You can weigh your solid fats or butters before melting. Do not use liquid measure, always weigh the ingredients using a good scale.
karenbeth must have posted right before I did, but we are saying the same thing.

Apart from being easier to weigh out the butters/solid oils when they are solid, it's probably not a great idea to keep pouring warmed oil back into your container .... And I know that there are some people who believe that the less you heat the oils, the more likely they are to retain their beneficial properties. So I would definitely weigh them when they're in solid form and then melt.

Welcome! I've found no question is basic! I measure mine in solid state. Please show off your 1st batch!

As everyone has said you always weigh your oils. If the recipe said to go by "cups" and not weight run away from that book/website/person and never go back.
