Hello all thought I would stop and introduce myself, my name is Jeni, I'm from Freeland Pennsylvania, I'm 26 have 2 beautiful children and a loving and supportive husband (whom is trying to find me an area in the house that would be safe for soap making) although he's trying to stick me in the basement lol

I've been interested in making soaps for about 2 months now and haven't had the courage to do so. I've began collecting materials (Although I still need lots of more stuff)...all I'm missing is the stick blender and scale and I will be on my way to making my first *simple* batch.

Reading around in the forum my fear for making soap is slowly going away and my impatience to make my first batch is growing. So you guys are creating a MONSTER lol (in a good way)
Well I think that's all thank you all for sharing and allowing newbies like myself to learn from y'all :)

Hi Jeni,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm glad to hear you're overcoming your concern about making soap. Do not let your husband stick you in the basement! You want somewhere where you can get to your soap supplies quickly and easily. The only thing I would put in a secure location is lye since you have two beautiful children.

Welcome to the forum. After you make a batch or two of soap, you will feel a lot more confident. At least, that was the way it was for me.

Ah, the moster was already in you, this place will just help you train it!!! ha ha. Dont soap in the basement, you need ventilation when working with lye. besides, you'll need the stove (Or a heat source) to heat your oils. You can easily store your stuff in the basement, if you dont mind the walking. But welcome, and good luck!

Thank you ladies for the warm welcome you are awesome the lye (chemical X) is hidden in the mud room where the monster lives. So they won't be getting in there...

I will be asking lots of questions in the forum so I know I will learn a lot

I got my stick blender yesterday from walmart ill post a pic to see if it is any good.

What else would you ladies say is an essential tool?

goggles, gloves and apron for dealing with lye, most definately a digital scale that measures in grams ounces and pounds to the third decimal out if possible, second decimal is fine. A good mold, and the willingness to experiment, because while learning, there is no telling what you are going to wind up with! Enjoy!
