My name's Sam, Sam I am. I've never made soap before, but I've been researching pretty intensely for the last few days and am eager to try my first batch! I'd like to make cold process, but I think I'll start with melt and pour, since I don't have a very good space to work with lye right now (I might in summer, but this is NoDak - it's flipping cold outside!).

I'm physically disabled, so most work that I have the experience (none) and skill (none) for are out for me. Basically, anything that involves standing all day - retail, food service, etc., not really gonna happen for me. So I end up at home alone all day while my partner works. So I've been looking for a hobby.

Hopefully I'll enjoy soaping enough to continue with it. I've got a terrible habit of picking up a thing and dropping it halfway through. :p

Excited to get to know you knowledgeable folks! I've been lurking the last couple days, reading on the forums. I found myself wanting to chime in or ask a question or two, so I finally bit the bullet and registered.

Have a great day, y'all.

Hey, and welcome, Sam I Am!

If you have a vent hood over your stove that works, you can make soap safely inside. That's how I do it. I just pull a bar stool up to the stove and work right there. All my ingredients are on one side, and my mold is on the other. I have an outlet close enough that the stickblender can reach. Easy peasy.

Welcome :) Soap making is fun and deeply satisfying - I think you will enjoy it!
And the nice thing is you can be as simple or as complex as you wish, and customize it exactly to your wishes.

Thank you everyone! I'm working on making a shopping list. Hopefully when that's done, I'll be able to get some supplies ordered and some soap made!

Hi Sam! Not physically disabled, but I was recently (a yr plus) diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.... so yeah, things are difficult for me...

Welcome and we're all here to help and support this quite addicting hobby :)
