Hello, I'm Masami from Malaysia and I still consider myself a noob when it comes to making soap although I have been making MP soap for a year now. Just recently I decided to get my hands dirty... uh, clean, making CP soap, which is still something of a complicated mystery to me because there are very few people who make CP soap that I know of in Malaysia, and this one guy who holds soap making classes, always pooh-poohs at my questions on CP soap because:
1. I think he only knows how to make a few kinds of CP soap.
2. He thinks making CP soap with fragrance oils and non-naturally derived colourants is rubbish. (Well, he didn't quite say it that way but he said it's pointless to make such soaps.)

I would love to make beautiful soaps that are not just good for my skin but are a delight to look at as well. I've seen so many examples of beautifully swirled CP soap online and would love to make some for myself too!

good for you! fragrances oils are just fine to use and colorful soaps are a lot of fun! I hope you enjoy making soap and welcome to the forum.

Hello Masami,

Welcome to the forum! :D

I started off with only using EOs and herbal powders for colorants. Then I expanded into FOs and micas. As Tasha said, colorful soaps are a lot of fun.

Have you watched videos on youtube for different techniques? There are some very good ones that you might find helpful. For example, there is oapqueen's channel. She demonstrates different swirling techniques. http://www.youtube.com/user/soapqueentv

There's also this one by which might help you.

If you're interested in more videos, please let me know and I'll post some more links.

Hello and welcome Masami!

I see no reasom why soap can't be both functional and beautiful. The colors and fragrances are a big part of what makes soapmaking so fun for me. It helps me to release my creative energy.
