Has anyone used this brand? I saw it today in Restaurant Depot. I love that it comes in a bucket and the price is great. This is the first time I’ve seen lard in my restaurant depot. This is like .05/ounce! 😳

As a former restaurant owner, we had to fill out a form along with our business tax ID # in order to purchase from Restaurant Supply places (both the ones who delivered, and the Cash & Carry store where we could go and purchase directly). They had to keep that on record for 'the tax man' because, not only do you get reduced pricing, but you also don't have to pay taxes on the purchases, since what your are purchasing is for resale and NOT for private use. (To avoid paying tax on it twice, since the business does pay taxes after sales.)

Incidentally, here is a link to Restaurant Depot's membership signup form: Signup | Restaurant Depot

"*Restaurant Depot is business-to-business only. To qualify for a free membership account, on your first visit you need to show a valid reseller's permit (business license) or tax-exempt certificate (for a non-profit organization) and show proof that you are authorized to purchase for said business or organization. In the following states, you also need your FEIN: CT, IN, MA and PA. "

I guess one could do a cost analysis of the price of a business license with resale certificate, and the savings that would be realized by shopping at this store.

ETA: I just checked our local Smart Food Service store. It used to be Cash & Carry, and is now US Foods (chefstore.com). Their 48lb bucket of Viva lard is $51.15 - which comes out to $1.07/lb. That is still higher than what @Jersey Girl found at Restaurant Depot, but this store is open to the public and does not require any resale certificate, business license, or store membership. 🥳

Is it possible to become a business owner just by declaring that you have a soap business? Or do they require a resale number or proof of a business license of some kind?

I think if you have an EIN number it may be sufficient. That’s all I have right now because I’m only selling online so don’t require a business license although I’m in the process of getting one. I haven’t joined yet. I just browsed and no one asked for a membership card when I went in. I‘m going to try and join with only an EIN so I’ll let you know how that goes.

I haven't used it, but its food grade lard sealed in a bucket with preservatives/anti rancidity ingredients.
I've used another brand, food grade, with same ingredients and never had a problem. And I've used about 100 lbs over the years.
