Hi there,

Re: the photo of the soap attached, my supplier explained to me that he thinks it could be something called 'blooming' (his response below) what do you think? Has this happened to anyone else before?

"The problem you show in your pictures actually looks like a problem that was brought to my attention some years ago when the organic and natural M&P bases first came out. I sent examples of the problem to the manufacturers at the time and was then told that it was a 'bloom' in/on the finished soap that was caused by not heating the M&P base to a sufficient temperature. The precise temperature advised to prevent this was 70 degC. We don't use the Eco Palm-free base in any of our own soaps, so I have no experience as to whether this would actually be the case, but as I say, it looks like the same problem. It is not apparent in the standard bases, hence it becoming an issue when the more natural bases were first launched. This would be a temperature to heat to rather than to pour at. Maybe you can give it a try and see if it cures the problem."

I use the Eco Palm-Free base.

Re: What's happened to this soap?

Hi there,

It was wrapped pretty much straight away after is had set and was wrapped in cling film (wrap) . I think I made a few mistakes when storing it (firstly cold garage and then was left in a car for a few days and got hot) so that might be why it's gone funny, but the soap actually looked fine until it started to be used and then it started to look like this!

Re: What's happened to this soap?

Yes, well it has been used for the last few weeks and still is being used and lathers fine and smells fine, just wondered why this has happened? If I push my finger into it underneath is normal, it's just a strange layer on the soap!

Re: What's happened to this soap?

It's just the humidity.
Next time, melt it at a lower heat, cure at room temperature and store in an airtight container.
There's nothing wrong w/ using that soap -- it's not damaged and it's exfoliating until the crystals wear off!
