I'm in love with this soap and it isn't even cured.

It was my first salt bar, first time infusing oil (paprika in my coconut oil), and first time doing CPOP. I did rub a little on my hand after I cut since it CPOP (I know...bad!!) and it already felt so creamy! I only had a little crumbling too which is what I was most terrified of. It's more of a light orange than shows in the pic, but it was going on midnight and I really didn't want to pull out the good camera.

;) Don't worry; salt soap tends to be a bit crumbly when it's cut. Probably has nothing to do with a lye excess.
When you start using it, it will become very smooth, almost cuddle stone like.

I love those basic looking bars! And I'm a sucker for grapefruit :p

That is nice.. You manage to cut it.. When did you cut the soap bar.. I am hoping to make mine soon.. I heard that soap bar harden fast.. so I got myself those individual molds to do.. Still waiting for the shipment..

It looks great and looks very creamy in the picture. What percentage of salt did you use?

50%

I just used an already made up recipe since it was my first salt bar.

It's coconut heavy though so I'm hoping it's not drying. I kept reading that you need a high coconut (or probably any hard oil now that I think of it). I used 80% coconut, 15% avocado, and 5% castor. It didn't feel drying on my hands, but I'll give it a few weeks and then try it in the shower.

How long to most of you cure a CPOP soap?

Dagmar, I expected more crumbling so I was pretty pleased. I haven't ventured into swirls or anything yet. Still just working on the basics!

Thank y'all for the compliments!

We posted at the same time so I missed your question. I had it in the oven for about an hour and a half, unmolded immediately, and then cut about 10 minutes after that. I think my oven runs hot though. The original said to leave it in the oven for 2 hours. I don't think I could have cut through it if I had waited that long.

The reason for high coconut in salt bars and not just any oil or hard oil, is because coconut will still lather in bars with a high concentration of soap. Mariners bars (which is 100% CO) are what Seaman would use because it would lather in the salt water they used.

Regardless of method of making soap (cp, hp, cpop, etc.) I never use a bar less than 6-8 weeks old. Castille and salt bars I let cure for months for the best results.
Since this bar is only 50% salt IMO I would not use it at less than 10 weeks, but you can try a bar periodically to see how you like it during the cure time. Try it at 6, then 8 then 10 so see which you like better. :)

Thank you! I do like how a longer cure feels better. The ones that have cured almost 10 weeks feel so much better than they did at 6! I need to learn patience.

That looks great! I have plans for a salt bar and am I bit concerned with how fast they are supposed to set up.

How much working time did you have?

I cut them within 10 minutes of taking them out of the oven. They were in the oven for an hour and a half. Actually, doing it as a CPOP soap, it was one of the easiest soaps I've made!
