Hi I tried my hand at making soap with Goat's milk. I couldn't get the mixture of lye and frozen goats milk to not curdle and turn orange.
Any ideas on how to handle the temperature while doing this? I am assuming the lye makes it too hot and curdles the milk.

Thanks

What I've found that works well is stirring in the lye into the frozen milk, and the whole time keeping the whole works in an ice bath. If you can picture it, I have my frozen milk in a plastic bowl, and then stir the lye into it, while the frozen milk is in a larger bowl of ice and a bit of water. It really helps keep the milk from heating up, and it works great!

The milk/lye still heat up a bit, but stay under 100 degrees in the ice bath (usually about 90) and that works perfect for mixing in the oils at that temperature.

Not to worry if your goat milk turned orange, that's just the sugars carmelizing and there are no problems with it. I've had it curdle as well and I still use it without any problems. If your lye container is big enough you can use a whisk to mix some of those lumps down. If they are really big, well then I would throw it out and start over. I do mine in a method very similar to Yooper...
