I am about to cook up my first batch of soap this week. I will be following a step-by-step video from an experienced soap maker. However, she uses Oatmeal, Milk & Honey fragance during tracing, but I am interested in using Vanilla 5th Dark essential oil. Will it work on goat milk soap? Has anyone ever tried this recipe? Should I add the oil during tracing? I am a little nervous and need all the help I can get.

Thank you all in advance!

I'm not sure what Vanilla Dark 5th essential oil is! I do know that vanilla absolute is extremely expensive (like $150 per ounce) and probably not affordable or practical for a new soaper to use (or anyone for that matter).. so what you have may be mixed with something or not an essential oil at all?

So while I can't answer your exact question, I would say that most fragrance oils and essential oils would be fine to use in place of another.

You should usually add fragrance or essential oils at trace. yep!

I've used WSP's Vanilla Bean Noel in goat milk lotion and it smells wonderful. I decided to try it in CP but I didn't have goat milk so I used coconut milk. It came out fantastic smelling (but very brown  ). Even the lather was brown - not pleasant looking. :(

So my opinion is that any vanilla is going to smell great in goat milk. I do recommend you use a vanilla stabilizer unless you really want brown soap.

I hope this helps you a little. :D
