I am wondering if anyone has any insight to share. I have been making shaving soap from melted glycerine, coconut oil, sunflower oi, and essential oils for scentl. One bar uses one bar of glycerine, 1 tsp of coconut oil, and 1/2 tsp of sunflower oil. When I make them one at a time, they come out perfect! When I make multiples, usually a half dozen at a time, they always end up having an oily layer on the top. Any advice as to what I might be doing wrong?

I wonder if in bigger batches it's harder for it to be stirred in fully? I always find in my larger batches colorants and FO/EO's take longer to incorporate, I wonder if this could be similar? Maybe try stirring longer? Another idea would be to watch your temps - try making a small batch taking note of the temps and then compare to a larger batch. Good luck! Let us know how it works out!

I don't really understand your question, because glycerine and oils do not equal a soap unless you also use lye (KOH or NaOH) to saponify the oils. So can you explain further, please?

Taken literally, you are making a lotion that will never work reliably. You are trying to blend a water-soluble ingredient -- the glycerin -- with oils without a chemical emulsifier to maintain the water and oil emulsion. This is going to be an issue that won't go away until you incorporate an emulsifier ... or make a true soap.

edit -- Or do you mean you are adding oils and fragrance to a premade glycerin soap bar?

Yes...that is correct. We were adding oils to a melted down glycerine bar. I just tried making a smaller batch and waited a couple of minutes before pouring into the soap mold and that seemed to do the trick! Thank you for your comments!
