Hello All,

I am new to the forum and looking to be more adventures with my DIY hobby. I have been encouraged to finally make my own body butter. I am looking to use mango butter or shea, coconut oil, black seed oil, vitamin e, and arrowroot.

I am also trying to be as green and chemical free as possible, which brings me to the question of storage! I plan on using glass jars instead of plastic ones, but I also want to stay away from Lids with plastic lining. The only solution seems to be foil.

I would love any advice on storing in glass and avoiding plastic lining in lids! I haven't found many resources via Google.

Hello and Welcome! SKS Bottles and Midwest Bottle may carry glass. I don't use glass as it's heavy and could break while transporting and customer use....don't want that responsibility or mess. I'm sure there are some here than may be helpful though. Also, they make paper liners for jars in different sizes so that may be an option.

I probably won't die from from plastic lining :), but I am just trying to be extra cautious (BPA and other harmful chemicals in plastic), since this will be for my own personal use.

I actually did look at SKS and I am planning on getting my glass from them and how I came across foil lining. Thank you for the resources!

Glass with silicone lids? I think I might have seen something like that on Amazon possibly. Or mason jars? I wouldn't use foil as that could counteract with a lot of ingredients that go into body products. I'm all for using glass and silicone as much as possible but I think going with plastic containers or mason jars (most things should be sealed otherwise you could use Pyrex or the like that have matching glass lids) is the lesser of 2 evils. I definitely get what you're throwing down though.

Mason jars make nice packaging but shipping, they're kind of heavy. I use them though when making Xmas baskets for family, and not having to ship.

You could use a small piece of parchment paper under that lid. But the worry about BPA is about ingesting(eating or drinking), not as having it as a liner for a lid on an external product. If you are that worried, though, use canning jars. Those lids just got replaced by BPA free linings.

Don't use foil. It reacts with lots of stuff.

Using glass jars scares me more than the things that have come up regarding plastic. Can you imagine what would happen if someone dropped the glass jar and cut themselves on the pieces? Especially the thick jar type glass. People have gotten sued over less!
