I don't have an official opening day set for my business, but I will be starting out on Etsy so whenever I set up a store there and get it open that will be my opening day. :D

Anyway, I got my LLC done, got my county business tax, and applied for my city tax last Thursday.

I received a phone call this morning from my city with a few questions concerning my business and storing the lye. When I filled out the application last week the gal asked me if I would be storing any hazardous chemicals, to which I responded yes, sodium hydroxide. Then she asks me how much I would be storing. A few quick thoughts go through my head....do I go low on the amount or just go with what I will probably actually store, which is also the amount I think I currently have. Well, I decided to go with the higher amount. I said that it would probably be no more than 100 lbs. I have probably about that much in my soap room now. I wanted to give a realistic amount, but not be too alarming. The gal wrote down on my application that I would be storing up to 100 lbs. I'm thinking that if my business takes off down the line and I wholesale like I want to then it will most likely be more than that. I thought they would have a problem with it, but I don't think they do. She was going to give my information to the Fire Marshall, and she said that they may want to come out 1-2 times a year to inspect how I am storing it. I told her no problem. So, I should be getting the tax receipt in the mail probably later on this week if it is approved by the Fire Marshall.

After that, I just need to register to collect sales tax and then obtain insurance, and get a logo. I think I'll be ready to set up an Etsy shop after that.

I'm so excited, but man I was stressing this weekend. I am still stressing a little bit now but not as much. I think I will finally be able to relax some when I get that paper in the mail.

How exciting! I am also planning my grand opening soon (it's June 30th) so I know how you're feeling! It is so exciting yet scary at the same time. I wish you luck! :)

Hey Ashley,

I'm not sure if you saw my post on the other forum but I just wanted to let you know that I take back my recommendation for The Logo Company (just in case you were still considering them). It didn't work out for me. I'll post more later.

Zeo - sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with The Logo Company....

Thanks everyone.

Yep, I'm sure I will have questions about Etsy and other aspects of selling.

I applied for a logo today. Now I just need to apply to collect sales tax, get some insurance, make more soap...grin...and get to work on Etsy, Artfire, etc.
