With help from this forum.... I have amassed materials to begin...

My ultimate goal is to produce 2 varieties of soap...to complete my honey and beeswax candles at my bazzar booth. Maybe someting with honey and something else with goats milk.

For now.... I have the follow materials that I got locally

Coconut Oil (louana) Walmart 31.5 fl oz
Extra Virgin Olive oil 17 fl oz
Palm Oil ( organic all veg shortening- Ingles) 24 oz

The only EO I have on hand are wintergreen, spearmint and clove bud so I may have to obtain another.

Now to find a receipe that allows me to use what I have on hand ! I will be looking but will appreciate any input if a great idea pops in your head...

thanks

Have you checked your local health food stores? Some of them carry EO's and other goodies:) You should be able to find castor there as well.

With your oils you could go: 40% OO
30% CO
30% Palm

no rush..

I'm not going to use the wintergreen at all.... it was purchased to use in some experimental grease patties to combat mites in the bee yard

I dont think the cloves smell soapy either but I will look around town and see if I can find something more suitable. PS.. I word at the local health food store but dont make enough to buy anything there

Yes... I did read the business tutorial.... I'm already in business as a beekeeper and have insurance... I'm a LONG WAY from being ready to actually sell the soap but if I enjoyed it ...it would give me something entertaining to do during the winter when the bees are sleeping !

I'm completely off topic but...you're a beekeeper? THAT IS SO COOL. My DH adores bees, although he doesn't do much but take pictures of them in the garden. We just spent over $700 buying camera equipment for him to take pictures of bees. No joke.

I agree with artisan about lavender. It's a very popular smell, a great match with honey, and it's inexpensive as EOs go (I bet you can find a place to order online that will give you a good rate, even with shipping). I only bought a small bottle of it at first because I didn't think everyone would like it, but now that I'm giving my soap away, both lavender batches 'sold out' first of anything.

Oatmeal Milk and Honey soap is always a good one to add to a line , everyone seems to like it . You have to grind your oatmeal very fine in a grinder . You could use oatmilk( ground oatmeal steeped in water, ) , goats milk . coconut milk , buttermilk any kind of milk really .
