Tried a very basic recipe last night to try a column pour and it went great until I tried a longer CPOP which I had just told someone I never do for this very reason. Not sure what I was thinking since CPOP was fine the way I had it. :/

Had it at 170 as normal but went 20 min with it on. Turned off
And went to bed and was perfect still. This am I found this.
The underside is solid but there is a layer of oil on top. Is it possibly fragrance? There is a good amount I can pour off. Also there are some solid clear bubbles.
I'm worries its oil and will now be lye heavy. I can salvage some outer pieces but the inner is kinda odd looking now.

I didn't insulate at all.. No top.. Very thin plastic drawer used.

Recipe basic and FO has no known heat issues.
23% CO
30% OO
25% PO
17% Lard
5% Castor

7% superfat with 1oz PPO Black Raspberry Vanilla from
peak.

I poured off the oil which was 3 oz in volume and this is what the top all looks like. Can you tell from this what it might be caused from?

I'm going to bet that folks are going to tell you to put the oil back and see if it readsorbs back into the soap. If you don't, won't your recipe be 3 oz light in oil and possibly lye heavy?

Exactly what I'd said.. :( And there is no reabsorbing.. the bar underneath is solid and fell out as I was pouring the oil off. It's not going to absorb anything. Can't even use for laundry with all that color. It's going to the garbage with the PH strips. HaHa!. Must laugh so I don't cry. So pretty it was! Now it has warts all over it.

I'm tempted to stick in a hot oven and see what happens. LOL But that would be like rebatch right?
And not sure how much heat the plastic can take. 170 was fine.

You can add the oils back and throw it into the crock pot. You will end up with brown soap though.

Oh, it was so pretty too! I am so sorry this happened. Please let us know what you do with it.

I've had it happen, let it sit there for a week to observe. I had to throw it away eventually. I guess hot processing is an option, I don't have a crock though. Guess I could double boiler it, but the smell is not good in an apartment.

I don't know what happened with mine, if it was the EO's or the oils and I thought they were at trace. And soaping too hot. I think I soaped too hot, and EO's.

I just made a lovely batch again today, but it was the Orange, Cinnamon Leaf, Clove EO's that killed it. It will sit there until hard enough to throw out, it smells great and has a great color, but not as much work as yours does.

Good luck, and do let us know!

Looks to me as if it overheated and if left to it's own devices for a few hours to a day or so, the oil would have soaked back in. As it is it will most likely be lye heavy and need to be rebatched.
Even "solid" soap, if not too old and fully cured will absorb oil back in.

Patience is a trick we all have to eventually learn in soaping. I still struggle with it even after all this time.
Good luck..

Ah.. Well there was so much with 3 oz I ended up sticking it in the oven. It was very solid like I could cut it already.

It went very loose and the oil was still on top so I mixed it in.. Do I just take it out now and let it sit or keep it in the oven for a while?
It's this grey, pink purple goop now.

YAY! It's ugly but I should have usable soap!
Took it out.. mixed a tiny dot of color and stuck in fridge for a while but noticed the bottom was really hot still and top cool. Took it out and set on counter, now whole thing is hot so its saponifying all those extra oils. Yay!!

Shall we meet in the photo area later? haha! Not sure I want to post mine.. it's so gross. At least it gives me a good laugh now.
Once it gets done cooking on my counter and I figure how to cut it, I'll show you.

It overheated and could well soak back in.I am sorry that happened..

With a rebatch that you know will probably turn brown, I would add some black colorant to a portion and maybe titatium dioxide to another portion (for a lighter brown) then swirl in the pot with the base brown. It wouldn't be beautiful but hopefully you won't have an awesome smellling but poop looking soap.
