Has anyone tried this for color in the soap? I know the scent of the juice won't stick, but I thought the sugar might make for a nice bubbly soap, and the color might be pretty.... Anyone?

I've got some elderberries in the freezer and I'm gonna try them for color in my next batch Lavender-Elderberry.

fruit juices can boost the lather. they can make your soap brown - especially the highly colored juices like blueberry. it's one of those "give it a shot" things.

I do not recommend dissolving your lye in fruit juice, but rather adding some once your lye and oils are emulsified.

I do, however, soap with tomato juice for 100% of the liquid and it works out beautifully. It's not high in sugar though - which might be why it works ok.

Luck!

I made a batch using blueberry-pomegranate juice (and coordinating FOs - it smells divine!) and the whole thing is a light-medium bluey purple. It's been a little while and though it's gone more toward the brownish side of purple, it's definitely not a brown soap. I'll see if I can get pics for you later - I'm nursing the flu right now :(

Once I feel better I'll be doing the prickly pear one (that's a fruit!), and then a tomato juice (with tomato leaf FO and some basil EO). I also did one with pumpkin which is just heavenly.. mmmmmm

Hey carebear, have you got any pics of the tomato juice soap? I have been wondering what sort of red/orange it ends up producing. Looking forward to see your juice soap too, Lil Outlaws.

This is a batch from last year when it was freshly made, tomato juice (campbell's) for 100% of the liquid. It fades somewhat over time, but don't have a picture of that. My latest batch is lighter cause I added some buttermilk to it.

Thanks carebear! mr surf girl and I were just moments ago talking about soap colour. (He likes red). Those bars are a nice rich orange, eh? It reminds me of candied papaya.

Carebear that soap is gorgeous! Have you tried other juices? I've used blueberry and ended up with brown soap - I put it in with the lye I still want to try it at medium trace. I've also used strawberries - they went brown too although the soap smells really good! I saw Lamond Soap's carrot soap and it's really pretty too - so now I need to try more of what you guys are doing too.

Well I tried the elderberries, agh! I decided to just use the juice to color part of the soap for a swirl, when I put the juice in after the cook(HP), I mixed a small amount of the soap with the juice and the deep purple color turned a deep bright green. So I decided that I wouldn't try the swirl and colored the soap with liquid dye that I had. After the soap cooled the color changed to a kacky green yuck.
