I've been watching many videos preparing for my first batch, and I've watched several add lye to frozen goats milk. I understand they do not want to overheat the milk. If it works for milk, does it work for water/ice? Are there less fumes?

I'm not suggesting I would try it, I was just curious.

I tried to search for the answer, but almost all posts have "lye" and many have "ice" or "frozen"

Thanks!

I use cold water a lot. No need to do frozen, just don't suck in the fumes.

When I do only water it's half water half ice. The reason for this...I can use it faster. (IE it's cool enough to use a lot sooner). You still dont want to suck in a lung full of fumes...but the fumes dont last that long at all.

I wear a mask and mix the lye and water outside ... on my verandah! One day I accidently beathed in a little caustic soda fumes ... and I thought my throat was on fire.

Plus I've seen a couple of people die from cancer of the lungs ... not nice!
