I thought I'd thrown these away but just found them hidden in my supplies closet. These bars are the oddest result I've ever had in making soap.
They were made back before Christmas and were my second batch ever using individual molds. Just like the first batch of individual bars they were very slow to harden so I put them in the freezer for a bit. They unmolded moderately well, but after a few hours some of the bars had started to develop quite a bit of ash. A couple of weeks later the ash had grown into a layer of fuzz that looks almost like a thin layer of quilt batting.
I've assumed that this is just a weird soda ash manifestation but found it odd that only about a third of the bars developed it. In any case I've quit freezing the bars and started using sodium lactate in the soap and heating pads for curing and the bars now pop out of the milds with no problem within 24 hours.
