Has anyone had this happen? One of my fragrance oils from a company in the great white north arrived with some precipitate on the bottom in the form of some waxy chunks.

I thought it was a bad batch of F/O and was contemplating calling the company, but then tonight, I read BB's post on frozen fragrance oils. Since the shipment was ordered during the recent spat of bad winter weather in the northern states, I am thinking that this may be the problem.

BB has a technique to restore the oil. I'm wondering if anyone else has done this and how it worked out?

Thanks!

I haven't had FOs that froze as much as she shows in the article. I just left the bottles on my kitchen counter since the kitchen is warmer than where I normally store my FOs. The FOs thawed and were fine.

I don't think submerging them in hot water would be a problem. After all, most FOs can withstand the heat of saponification which can be hot if you're gelling - maybe not as high as the temp for boiling water but still fairly hot.

The concern I have is the idea of putting a cold or cool glass bottle in hot water and the possibility of it cracking or shattering. It's just my opinion since I haven't tried this method but if I did try it, I'd put the bottle in cold water in a double boiler and slowly warm it. I'd remove it from the heat prior to a boil and then leave it set. But as I said, I haven't tried BB's method so I might be wrong in worrying about glass.
