Fragrance oils being used and sold as all natural soap

How do people get away with selling fragrance oil scented soap as all natural?

I'd imagine either natural scent or essential oils would have to be used.

Because the phrase "all natural" has no real legal meaning on labels. It's a buzz-word, intended to sell whatever it's slapped on.

But people with skin allergies to chemicals could in theory break out ?

I sell, and there's a larger lotion/soap business about an hour away. I use NG Cracklin Birch FO and it's very popular. They have a fragrance line called White Birch. It smells exactly like CB, but they label the fragrance as made with natural EOs and hydrosols. . . . That's how they get away with it--they stretch the truth. . . or make up their own definitions.

In reality, anyone could react to anything in any soap at any time. Regardless if it is "all natural" or not. Get insurance. Label honestly.

People react to EOs, too. Some people can tolerate the "unnatural" FOs better than the EOs.

Yep, that would be me for one. Products made in labs are not necessarily :evil: (evil) I forgot to mention that there are some fo's now sold as natural

You really can't call a soap natural anyway. Last time I checked, Lye wasn't natural and neither are the saponified oils after the chemical change is done.

Some of my customers define "natural" as anything homemade. I stay away from "organic" and "natural" wording in general. It's just way too complicated to explain to people.

The fact that (as others have said) buzz words such as "all natural" or "organic" has become synonymous with "Good" drives me crazy.

Whenever someone tries to tell me that all natural is better for you than synthetic I tell them I would much rather drink a glass of Kool-Aid or a soda pop, than eat a handful of arsenic, hemlock, or walk in poison ivy/oak.

They usually begrudgingly get the point.
