Has anyone ever had FO stop or reverse trace? I made a batch of salt bars today, added my FO at light trace (spring rain from the candle source) and SB it in. It went really thin and more blending didn't bring trace back.
I tossed in my salt and even that didn't make it trace, I added a bit more salt then separated the batter for coloring. By the time I had the colors mixed in and ready to pour, it finally hit light trace.
I'm not complaining, my last salt batch was a disaster. This was nice and slow, I even had time to make layers and swirl. I just found it odd to see batter thin back down like that.

Coconut oil 26.80oz (20% SF)
H20 10.18
lye 3.92

salt, started with 10oz. Added more without weighing but it was close to another 10oz.
FO 1oz

paprika and parsley for natural color

My first batch of salt bars did that! I thought it was that I had done something wrong. Not at home so I can't tell you what FO it was but I know it was from NG.

I though I was going to have a failure. My first salt batch acted typical, turning very thick in seconds. I was prepared for it to happen again so when I had trouble getting it to trace, it kinda freaked me out:)
I liked this much better. I was able to let it sit in the fridge for a few hours and its didn't get too hard to cut. I had to toss my first salt batch after it crumbled into a unusable mess.

I often experience thinning of my trace after adding FO but just keep stick blending and it comes back to trace quickly.

Mine freaked me out because I was never really sure if I actually had a trace once it did get a little thicker or if it was a false trace. So when the FO seperated a little out of the top after I had it in the mold I was convinced that I needed to rebatch it. For fun I left one bar alone and rebatched the rest. Well the one bar I left alone turned out great! My rebatch - not so pretty What a learning curve :lolno:

I just started experimenting with FO's (4 so far) and they have all reversed trace in varying degrees. I was a little concerned, too, especially when I keep hearing about FO's and EO's causing seizing, which thankfully, I haven't experienced yet!

I hear ya. I had everything ready in case I had acceleration, I was prepared to stir and dump globs in the mold. It was really nice to be able to take my time and make a pretty batch. I did use full water though and not a huge amount of salt. Now lets hope I actually like salt bars.

I hope you like 'em too. I really like mine. I've used one that I rebatched and it is really nice. I'd rather call it a 'spa bar' because that's what it feels like. Leaves my skin feeling really clean and not a bit drying. BTW the FO I used was Early Sunrise type from NG. Love the scent. I'll have to try it again to see if it slows down trace again.
