Okay so here is a couple of pics of the soap i made yesterday. Overall I think I did okay. Its an olive oil and coconut oil blend (80/20) with goats milk and ground coffee for scrubiness.

Despite my specially bought stick blender crapping out after like a minute of mixing and then me freaking out that it wasn't going to work and almost spooshing the entire bowl over the counter using a hand whisk it finally came to trace

then after I poured it into pringle cans I was looking in and somehow got some on my tongue :wtf:. zapped me big time. i licked it again today after cutting (this time deliberately ) it still zapped but not nearly as bad as it did yesterday.

I'm a little disappointed that I cant smell the scent that i put in but it does kinda smell like a cup of coffee which is also good I guess.

Looks great, and will definitely be scrubby! I think the slow trace might have been due to the high percentage of OO.

Awesome Job! Congratulations on your first soap! Now go scour every 2nd hand shop, tag sale, goodwill, and salvation army store you can and buy every stick blender you come across that is less than say $7. You can stop when you have three! You won't have to worry about that again. ;-)

Awesome soap!
Good job for your fist soap as well. :)

I wondered what scent did you put in? And how much?

the soap calc told me to put in 0.63gm which wasn't even the 10ml bottle I got and I ended up dumping the whole lot in. I left the soap calc at default settings when I made up my recipe. It was a blend of citrus and lavender oils I got from the chemist for a couple of $$. I haven't really looked online much for fragrance yet. I wanna get a couple more batches under my belt before I go spending more money on more costly fragrances

10ml won't scent your soap very much and it sounds like the fragrance was in a carrier oil for that price from the chemist.

I usually put around 20-25mls per 1kg soap recipe. Thats FOs, I don't use EOs.
I like lightly fragranced soaps though, some soapers may be using more.

awesome. gives me a place to start. i was looking on ebay before and there are a bunch of Fo in 100ml bottles that i thought were reasonably priced. Where abouts do you get your FO's from fuzz-juzz?

Mostly bigtreesupplies. And some from aussiesoapsupplies. They are a bit pricey, but good quality. I have tried few cheaper ones but didn't like them. I'm a bit fussy with FOs :)

Congrats! I still remember my first batch and how nervous I was. LOL Did you add the coffee grounds at trace or before. If you added it before trace it would have made the stick blender work harder. I've had my sb for over a year and it's still going strong. Can't wait to see your next batch. What's it going to be?

I added the coffee after it got to trace. I think the stick blender was just a cheap piece of junk. Cost $20 brand new from woolworths :S

I think for my next batch I'm going to try to add some colour and the right amount of fragrance. I was planning on expanding my choice of oils to olive, coconut, rice bran, grape seed and maybe add some sunflower or avocado. I haven't quite decided yet. I also want to finish off my individual moulds. I'm still working out the bugs in the silicone I'm using.
