About 10 years ago I made lots of lotions and abruptly stopped when a career change made it impossible to keep up on demand (I was selling at the time). After a week of extensive reading (thank you SO much http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/ you are AMAZING) I felt like I really had no idea what I was doing before- so give it another go.

The lotion/cream I made is really lovely- BUT one thing remains which I never liked with my homemade lotions- the waxy feel from the polawax.

Does anyone have any ideas of what can be added or replaced to lessen the waxy feeling? I would like it to feel more silky and soak in a tad faster.

Here is my recipe:

Oil Phase
15% Sunflower Oil
4% Shea Butter
1% Coconut Oil
5% Polawax
3% Cetyl Alcohol

Water Phase
70% Strong Peppermint Tea (I put the bags in and boiled the water for a solid 20 minutes as per swiftcraftymonkey's instructions on her site)
2% Glycerin

Cool Phase
My scale isn't as great as I thought, so instead of measuring the following in weight, I had to use a pipette and the following are in ml.
Germall Plus- should be .5% so I put about 2.5ml
Hydrolyzed Oats- aiming for 2% so put in 1.5ml
Silk Amino Acids- aiming for 2% so put in 1.5ml
ROE- Wasn't sure so put in 1ml in the oils before mixing in water phase
Essential Oils- 10 drops peppermint, 10 drops lavender, 20 drops mango-orange blend.

The scent is very very subtle. Leaves no remaining scent once absorbed into skin. Feels really lovely aside from the slight waxy texture.

Any ideas for improvement are greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Cheers,
Adele

I should also mention that I have no intention of selling my products again- this is for personal use only, and gifts for my family and close friends.

Well, I took matters into my own hands haha (I know I'm soooo impatient lol) and after scouring lotion recipes I have ordered some Incroquat Behenyl TMS-50 as it apparently is an emulsifier that leaves more of a silky feel.

I'm going to try to split a batch 50/50 with my polawax, and test it at 100%

I'll post my results once I get my goodies! Hopefully these posts will help others who might have a similar issue with their creams and lotions.
