I made my first batch last night, I'm so excited! Admittedly it was from a kit, but that just means that all the calculations and weighting is done for you, but now I've done it once, I'm more confident that I'll be able to do it again.
I did make the common beginner mistake of over-blending - I just couldn't see anything I'd describe as a "trace"... I think the fragrance oil included with the kit probably accelerated it too, as it went from a thick pouring custard type consistency, to a gloopy pudding very fast after I added it...
I was ambitiously going to attempt a swirl, but when it thickened up so fast I just dumped it in the mould and vaguely stirred the colours together, so we'll see what wierdness we get when I cut it later! It did mean I got to have a go at a spoon texture on top before I added the lavender buds...
Regardless of the aesthetics, it smells amazing, is hardening up nicely and is definitely soap...
