UPDATE: My lye came today!! (happy dance, happy dance!) It's officially time for my first batch of CP! I'm nervous but soooo very excited! I'm just waiting on the kids to fall asleep for their naps so I can have some safe/quiet/alone time... cross your fingers and wish me luck!

Okay so I have everything I need here except lye and a SB - I'll just have to use a whisk or something for the first batch, I can't afford the SB right now. However I do have lye on the way :D

Soooo in the meantime, I'm trying to get my recipe thought out and planned, and take all of my ingredients and supplies next door to get ready (we have two houses - my FIL died and his empty house is just sitting there so I'm going to try CP over there where there is plenty of room)..

I'm trying to use soapcalc to figure out my first recipe but I don't know how to work the thing???

Here's what I have on hand - someone help me come up with an easy recipe that is still a great soap, very moisturizing and GOOD lather that lasts (for DH)..

Apricot Kernal Oil
Lard
Coconut Oil 76*
Corn Oil
Sunflower Oil
Soybean Oil
Olive Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Crisco

Liquid Lanolin
Shea Butter
Vitamin E capsules

micas, herbs, spices, etc.

Any ideas???

:p

I use lard, coconut oil, and soybean oil all the time. I can't find the other stuff at a reasonable price here. I'll let someone else comment on those ingredients.

You may want to add some lukewarm honey at trace for a good lather.

I suggest startingwith a small batch or you'll be stirring forever.

This is what I use,
10 oz lard
4 oz coconut oil
2 oz soybean

4 oz water
2 oz goat's milk or coconut milk
2.2 lye

1 tbsp honey at trace

Not the most moisturinzing bar ever, but it suits my needs.

not to contradict, but I'd not recommend milk or honey for a first batch. both these can complicate things.

definately, I'd use water for the first one

I used water, then coffee, then tea, then slowly graduated to milks.

It's time, it's time! My lye came and as soon as my kids go down for a nap, I'm going to attempt my first batch of CP! w00h00!!!

Here's the recipe I'm going to try:

Crisco 35%
Coconut 76* 35%
Olive 25%
Grapeseed 5%

Coconut 5.6oz
Crisco 5.6oz
Olive 4.0oz
Grapeseed 0.8oz
Water 6.08oz
Lye 2.32oz

Does this sound right? It's a 1lb batch, since I'm scared of too much for my first try..
