While looking at back to school stuff the other day, it dawned on me that those plastic folders might work to line my molds. So for a dollar I bought a purple and orange folders. Measured my mold and cut out sides, and the bottom from the folders. I then taped the whole thing together with painters tape. Tested them out yesterday and they held up rather well. Only thing I needed to do was to wash the pieces and retape them. Used them again today. They did not warp from the heat when the soap gelled, which was my concern. So for a few minutes spent measuring and taping I will no longer need to fool around with the frustration of freezer paper to line my molds! Yippee!

Great idea! Maybe next year, I won't dread shopping for school supplies so much if I can bring home something for myself.

I also stock up on glue sticks for my labels.

Dumb question here but what do you mean by "plastic folders"? I'm trying to think of what you are talking about and my minds gone blank.:)

I've used those thin plastic sheets sold for cutting up veggies as liners in my molds -- they're about the same type of plastic as the plastic folders.

I think something like this: Amazon link

Exactly, but you can find them cheaper in discount stores. Paid $0.47each for mine.

Dumb question - off topic, how does one quote in this app? Sorry earthen step tried to 'quote' you and only got your sentence, missed your name.

Thanks for the link, now I know what to look for in the discount store.:) Definitively gonna give this a try.

These are great tips Firedancer and DeeAnna! I have something new to experiment within the next few days. I use those sheets all the time and never dawned on me to make a mold from them. I have a thick head (nothing much inside though) so I have to learn from good ideas like these. Nice!

Can't wait to try it!

I love your idea, I would make soap more often if I could find a better way to line the molds. I am going to try it out ASAP!! Thanks for sharing :)

Some tips: Cut the sheets very slightly smaller than the mold surfaces so the plastic slips in place easily. If you cut the plastic to fit snugly, it will not fit flat against the mold. You can use a dab of vaseline (petroleum jelly) between the plastic and the mold to "glue" the plastic parts in place if needed. Expect the plastic to adhere to the soap, so use patience until your soap is firm enough and work slowly and carefully to remove the liner. I do not tape my liner parts together, and I think it is easier to remove the individual parts rather than deal with a taped-together, all-in-one liner.
