Few questions, optiphen plus, sugar, oilness

Do I have to put optiphen plus preservative in bar soap. Each time I put in it tracing oils super fast????

Have made a few soaps but when cured they then appear oily to the touch. Not overly oily but just a bit wondering if this is normal or how can I combat the oily residue only to touch when using seems ok. Recipe 38% coconut oil, olive oil 30%, castor oil 8%, Rice Bran Oil 14%, Shea butter 10%. Sodium lactate 1 teaspoon.

Hello!
You do not need a preservative with bar soap. I suspect that may be the causing some of the oily issues you are experiencing.
Sugar of any type adds to your bubbles and lather. You don't have to add it, but I personally think it does make a nice addition.

I'm just curious as to why you would think bar soap needs a preservative? But as Cellador stated, no it's not needed. The PH is high enough.

I usually don't go over 5% Castor oil in my recipes, so don't know if those with 8% are more prone to sweating. If it is humid where you live, that could cause sweating. As was stated above, you don't need preservative for bar soap.

Thank you all for your responses. In next recipe will decrease castor oil an see how that goes, and not use a preservative. Might be able to do some swirling now. Not humid live in Sydney Australia. With the sugar in the above recipe, how much should I use?

I think the general usage rate is a teaspoon per pound of oils.... But I just eyeball mine lol

Most add it to whatever liquid you're using, dissolve it (and salt, if also using) before adding your NaOH.

I also just add it in as sugar syrup after my HP cook.
