I'm a political editor in my real life, and we just ran a story on the FDA Globalization bill today.

Basically, Energy and Commerce Chairman John Dingell said he plans to finalize the draft of the bill and introduce it in Congress early next year. Dingell also wrote his colleagues last week that he will move the bill through committee with “the utmost speed.”

It WILL pass. The problems with tainted products has made that a virtual assurance. but the question is whether there will be an exemptions to the registration and reporting provisions for small soapmakers like us.

I was hoping that the doubt over whether or not Dingell would retain his chairmanship would slow or derail this legislation. Thanks for the head up. I know we are looking to see what the final text reads.

Edited- because I just read a few articles and Waxman is no different on this issue than Dingell. Big Sigh.

So if this passes, does it also include those who buy premade bases and only add FO's or EO's?

What precisely is included in this? Cosmetics? Soaps? Lotions? Shower Gel?

well, that's excellent news. The draft would have been terrible legislation, but I do think that something needs to be done.

The giant cosmetic and chemical companies get away with putting far too many harmful ingredients in the products we consume with not much oversight. But they couldn't do that unless those ingredients were approved by the FDA in the first place.
