Hello Everyone,

I am pretty new to soap making and have made a few batches thus far. I wanted to start
coloring my soap with herbal infusions, but made the mistake of infusing in Extra Virgin OO.
I know EVOO can discolor soap, so I am wondering what I should do?
Should I re-infuse my herbs into a grade A Olive oil or do you think I should just use what I need
for the color percentage and use Grade A for the rest of the amount?
Any thoughts in the topic would be greatly appreciated:)
Thanks so much

Dodo Soap;)

I'd say give it a shot with the EVOO. My pomace OO was pretty green, and the grade A I use now isn't too different in color than most EVOOs I've seen. If it discolors try a grade A. At least you'll have some EVOO label appeal at the very least. Hehe

Depending on your oil, the finished soap may have a slight yellowy-green to olive-green cast. I think it's pretty, personally. But if white soap is truly important to you, you might try the grade A.

I suppose that it depends on what colors you're going for, but I think it's likely that the EVOO won't make it look bad. I recently made a batch of uncolored soap with 70% EVOO and, while it certainly isn't white, it doesn't look anything like the dark color that's in the bottle. It really doesn't even look green. Maybe make a small batch and see if you like it?

Thanks so much everyone for all the replies. One of my first batches of soap was made with over a third of EVOO. I added ultramarine purple hoping to get a lovely purple shade but it ended up being grey:( Maybe it won't matter so much with dark herb or green herb colors like Rotan Jot or Comfrey Root. Not sure about annatto seed or turmeric. I guess we'll find out:)

Thank again

When I first started making soap that was all I used (EVOO) and I usually ended up with a fairly white bar of soap. I now use Pomace and I'm quite happy with it. Did you know that in Italy some olive growers won't sell their oil to soap makers? It's true, they don't want their oil wasted on soap
