Whyare EOs not recommended for pregnant ladies?

It is my understanding that some EO's are not suitable for pregnant women because they are so strong that they can cause a miscarriage. It is not all eo's, just some, but can't think what they are off the top of my head. I am sure that someone more knowledgable will chime in and answer your question properly!!

Yeah that would be good to know. That's actually kinda of scary!

We're trying to get pregnant so I need to know these things

i get concerned about that also. what about people who buy things like bath salts and lotions in the stores that have eo in them. i don't remember seeing anything at body shop, origins, bath and body works, aveda, and such posted about pregnancy and eo's.

anyway, i do customers at craft shows that i would recommend uncented or direct them toward other considered safe eo soaps.

just like taking medicine when pregnant, you are very limited to what you can have, eo's do have medicinal and some toxic value to them if not careful.

if you google many sites will give some info here is one.

hope this helps,

Wow!! Now this is a new one for me. I've not used any EO's yet..and won't now until I reallyyy study this out. I hope someone has some input on this.

Thank you I will read it later. I never would have thought of that and as a consumer, I had never heard of it either.

Definitely good stuff to know :).... call me hyper vigilant but i usually keep the MSDS for all my (thats short for material safety data sheet for all my abbreviation impaired peoples out there like me...)

I research all the risk and benefits of each ingredient and component of my craft :)... got to know.

The power of knowledge! :)

Re:eo's and pregnancy

Hi I know I am new but I am trying to get
pregnant and was also worried about this.
I have done alot of reading on this ,and o
one of the eo's that gets mentioned alot is
Clary sage. I know there are others such
as Pennyroyal which can induce abortion
celeryseed hyssop,lavender and rosemary
just to name afew but mostly they don't say
why .I think some of that is if you ingest it,
but Clary sage & Penny royal for sure.
I hope I don't have to quit making soap.
I wonder if it is just from smelling it?
anyway there is my two cents...
Dana

I'm pregnant right now and am avoiding using and making most essential oil soaps....The only one I will use right now is FO soaps and lavender.

Good luck!!

eo's can be bad for people with health problems too. i have epilepsy and i avoid rosemary, sage, sweet fennel and hyssop like the plague.

I've been doing more reading about this tonight and so it's only EOs? FOs don't have these problems?

And just so I'm clear, it's not just handling them, it's actually using soaps with them in it as well right?

Yes, I'm actually taking a class this semester called "plants and people" as an elective.

I guess trying to get pregnant, I need to lay off the chamomile, eucalyptus, lavender soap i made.

Some FO's contain EO's, so be careful with them too.
