agriffin, i love your recipe but can't seem to get it right. here's what i used for a test batch, and followed the tutorial instructions exactly:

melted together:
20 grams stearic acid
12.5 g polywax
10 g shea butter
10 g cocoa butter
30 g coconut oil (not fractionated)
7.5 g jojoba oil

very warm, not boiling:
20 g liquid soap (dr. bronner almond)
90 g distilled water
2 teaspoons white and rose clays
1/4 teaspoon honey powder

mixed together, whisked 'til emulsified, let cool.

added:
spearmint fo (i know there are better ones for facial use but i was just experimenting)
tinosan preservative

mixed in:
100 g white sugar

the sugar just melted, no scrubbiness. so i cooled it to room temp and added about a half cup more sugar, which also melted. so i added some blue poppy seeds and powdered almond seeds. and then another quarter cup sugar or so.

it's finally really scrubby, which is what i wanted, but i know i've diluted all the nice ingredients with so much sugar.

ideas, suggestions? and most of all, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, MERRY CHRISTMAS, JOYEUX NOEL, FELIZ NAVIDAD, AND THANK YOU ALL FOR THE ADVICE, CAMARADERIE, HUMOR, AND ALL THAT GOOD JAZZ :)

I'm not sure what's going on. Mine ends up like a really thick lotion and then I add the sugar. It doesn't melt. I use brown sugar for most of the time but have used white sugar with no problems.

I noticed you said you use a whisk...I use a stick blender. I'm wondering if mine is just getting thicker and holds the sugar better? But I'm just not sure.

thanks! gonna try it again with the stick blender and use brown sugar. even with all the sugar, it's WONDERFUL! just what a scrub should be, and i LOVE the blue poppy seeds and almond meal. my skin tends to break out with almost anything, and after using this for two days it's smooth as silk, and no breakouts! you're brilliant, agriffin :)
