Oh man, I was so scared when it looked like it was curdling. I was furiously reading and researching, knowing that having goat milk present made everything more complicated and less likely to be discussed.

I kept stirring like a madwoman. I had lost hope, but I wasn't giving up.

And then, like magic....

It creamed right up.

I want to do everything I can to keep it from separating later and in dilution. I am a little worried about it being too superfat with the very rich goat milk. I didn't realize when I started that you can't have too much superfat in liquid soap. I am hoping for the best...

Whoa Nelly! Then it started heating up all on its own! I am trying to cold process this liquid soap to keep it from browning. Just put the whole pot in a water bath to lower the temps...

There is a huge debate about preservatives in liquid soap. I firmly believe that it should be used whenever the paste includes anything other than oils (such as milk, honey, etc). I’ve seen too many pics of moldy paste. Never mind the waste of ingredients, what about all the paste that was filled with mold but just didn’t show visible signs yet? Ewwwwwe

I was under the impression that preservatives should be used in the diluted product, but was not aware that they should be used in the paste itself. Especially considering: when would you be able to add the preservative as it should be added during the cool down phase (of which I feel like the soap is already quite "solid")

Good question! I’ve only made liquid soap with oils, no additives like milk or honey, in part bc of all the horror stories I’ve read about people finding their paste covered in mold after a month or two. So I haven’t used preservative in the paste itself. Perhaps someone with more experience or knowledge about that issue can comment.

Good to know about the super fat needing to be reigned in. Just wish I'd known before I started.

I thought maybe I would only dilute a bit at a time as needed. I had remembered someone saying that once you dilute it, the clock is ticking on its shelf life.

I don't have any preservatives in my tool chest yet, but it is time I get some. I am wanting to make goat milk lotion also, and I know I will need it for that.
