ok! I need some help here. So far every batch of soap I've made is a little drying to my skin. Last batch I superfatted with almond oil, still drying. I need a recipe that isn't so drying to the skin. Any suggestions? Please?

How long have you waited to try your soaps after you've made them?

I get really impatient and tend to use my soaps WAY before I'm supposed to (like, a couple of days later sometimes  ). I find if I use them too early they are more drying than if I let them cure for the proper amount of time. Could that be your problem?

Well I used the HP method and its been two weeks now. Should I wait longer you think?

When you run your recipes through a lye calculator, what superfat lever/lye discount do you choose? I usually set mine at 6% and have no problem with drying my skin out. Before handmade soap I was a dry, itchy mess if I used supermarket 'soap'.

Possibly you could have an allergy/sensitivity to one of the oils you use? Some folks are super sensitive to coconut oil for example.

Have you tried anyone else's handmade soap and had any problems? If not, it may be an ingredient you are using.

Sorry I am not much help - just trying to help you think about all the angles

Tanya :)

I do a lye discount of 8% and I haven't found anything drying. Try changing your recipe to maybe 100% Olive, or 75% Olive & 25% Coconut. I think you're going to need to try different combinations of oils to see if you do have a senstivity like Tanya suggested.

Wish I could help you more....

Hmmm...Maybe there is too much coconut oil! I'll try something different next time. Thanks for the advice!
