Poured this a couple hours ago. Hoping it discolors to a nice dark brown, if not it might look weird when cut. Colored a small amount with merlot mica in the hopes it will be a dark reddish color. I also made pencil lines in gold and white mica.

Its hard to see but there is two colors of pinkish. Anyone have any idea how long before it might start to change color?

It will darken up considerably within a few days but it will take a few weeks to go completely. It's unlikely it will be dark at all inside when you cut but then, with exposure to the air, it will start to turn.

I hope you will post pictures just after cutting and in a few days. I would love to see how those mica lines pop!

Edit: I got impatient and cut a little early. Looks like I was a tad light on the mica lines but they look ok. I'm happy with the red color, now to wait for the brown to develop.

They are starting to darken and look even better. Not enough of a difference to take pics but in a few days they should be. Dragonsblood in a amazing scent too, everyone should try it at least once.

I poured 20 lbs of DB last week and just picked up 2 more lbs of DB fragrance while at market last night. Have faith it will darken. Depending where you purchased you DB it will darken from a milk chocolate to a very dark brown

Newbie trying to absorb all the information I can so I ask a lot of questions. What are pencil lines? How did you get the swirly look? What do you use to cut your bars as they look so nice, even and smooth. Even though I try to cut straight they never seem to end up that way.

Pickles-a pencil line is a thin layer of mica or colorant used between two layers of soap. You can see her gold lines between the layers. The issue of how you get swirls is a very very long topic and there are many ways. You should start by looking on youtube for soap swirling techniques; there are many and it's often easier to understand by seeing rather than someone describing it. IT's pretty hard to always cut straight bars by hand. A lot of people use wire cutters, miter boxes or special boxes for cutting soap. I would do a google search on soap cutters and you will see that there are many sorts.

I love your pencil lines! I always wish I could get them thicker but then I go downstairs and look at my split bar. The gold is very eye-catching. It will just pop out more as the soap goes dark, don't you think? Please post some dark pictures too. I want to see how your set-up looks then. I bet it will be fantastic.

I got my DB from a local soap supply and they won't tell what supplier their FO's come from. I'm hoping for a really dark brown but any brown will be ok.

A pencil line is a thin strip of color that runs through the soap, usually done in a contrasting color so it shows up well. You see the thin gold and white line that run across the bar from left to right? The center soap has a pencil line made from coco powder.

There are different ways to get the swirly look. I used two techniques in this soap. A drop swirl where you just alternate pouring in different colors. Pour from kinda high so the batter mixes in the mold. Thats how I got the big swirls of red.

The thinner swirls towards the top of the bar was done with a in the pot swirl. You lightly stir in a small amount of colors into a base color and gently pour so it doesn't mix up too much. Check out soap swirling techniques on youtube.

I used a knife with a very, very thin blade. It took practice to get decent cuts, I like to use a wire cheese cutter but my wire broke so its back to the knife for now.

Thanks Newbie. My first pencil lines almost fell apart (see picture above) now I have a tendency to make them too thin. I think the gold will look really nice once the soap darkens.

I used bb dragons blood and it discolored to a medium brown. So I think yours will discolor nicely.
