My sister tells me the only soap she can use is Dove. I thought if I can get a rough idea what is in it , I might be able to make something similar up for her to use. here is a link to the MSDS for Dove soap with 1/4 moisturizer. http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=12002007 I looked into what some of the ingredients are used in and one of them is for cleaning car wheels and toilet bowls. Maybe I best just make up a few mild soaps for her to try out. Dove also has Tallow in it so this might be my starting point. :D

Someone listed the ingredients on another thread. I'd like to know how they change the PH to 7? Citric Acid perhaps?

Yes, I wondered that myself. You would think that any acid would have to be added after saponification or it would neutralize the Lye. The msds does not mention an acid but maybe somewhere in all those big long words there is something Acidic. I gave my sister a couple of bars of Clear M&P the other day to try out and she says it feels good on her skin, so maybe just putting a few nice things in a Glycerin soap may be all she needs. :D

My daughter also told me that her family could only use Dove until I gave some of my soap. Now she has found that they can use all of my soap that they can get. Olive oil soap without any fragrance or essential oils should be mild enough for her skin.

I have found a lot of people telling me the same thing too. I have them try out any of my mild bars, mostly with no color or fragrance, and they love it. Soaps that tend to do the best for them have aloe, honey, beeswax, or olive oil in them. ..in my experience.

I think for store bought soap Dove , truly is the one that many people can tolerate . If they have trouble with their skin , they are afraid to try something else . But when they do try handmade soap , they are astonished that it is so nice to the skin .

Most people are, and it doesn't even have to be luxury oils. Simple handmade soap with a superfat is so much better than anything you can buy in the stores at any price.

if you google whats in soap, or something like that theres articles about all the chemicals in soap, dove too.

I had a friend tell me this the other day, she used my baby Lola bar (no scent or colour) and loved it! it seems that its a common story. Kitn, I love the new picture by the way, what happened to the other kitten? did she grow up?

Exactly Mike , it is pretty cool to get the super positive feedback from a die hard Dove user . One convert at a time , slowly and surely handmade soap will rule

I'm working on my mom. Won't even touch my soaps. She says she's sensitive. I understand that. She can handle fragrances and color and pink dove has fragrance so I'm going to get some chanel no 5 FO and make her 100% OO soap or close to it soap. I have some flexus molds that are oval. She loves chanel no 5 so hopefully that will help convert her. i'm debating on pink or white. I want to make it now and age it until Christmas.

(sorry, offtopic) Milla, If you'd like to make some soap for your mom; I'd suggest to go with 75% olive, 20%coconut (or as I hear PKO for sensitive skin) and 5% castor. Silk and a bit of sugar are excellent additives.
Pure olive oil needs a loooooong cure and gets kinda slimy. I do like it; but for someone used to commercial soap it might take a while to grow to like it...

I just happen to have PKO, which I totally forgot about! That sounds like the perfect recipe for her. I bet she wouldn't like slimy if she likes dove! Thanks!

Forgot to ask, what do you think for superfat? I'm terrible at picking it. I'm thinking 6%? I have no idea!
