I have a friend that swears by these DoTerra EO's for holistic treatment.

Can these EO's be used in CP soap making??

They can be but it's pretty pricey to use most of them in soap. I'd stick to lower cost ones like lavenders and such for scent. :) And many have low flash points so gelling soap can make them useless. Some feel EO's lose their theraputic value after saponification. Not sure if anyone has any real data on this as to yes or no but I can't imagine they would last through it.

And DoTerra is good but so are many others. I personally use Mountain Rose, trust them and love their quality after several years of using them for oils, herbs, etc. and I also like Ananda.
You can't go wrong with any of them.

She would supply me with the EO. I would make the soap for her. Personnally, I don't think oils can heal a person but....to each his or her own.
She has been looking for a natural soap and I told her the oils I use in my basic recipe. If she wants to supply the EO's for a loaf of soap, I will make it for her. I am not sure how those particular EO's will hold up or stick to CP soap.

Thank you for your response!! :)

She's going to have to give you a lot. Seems as if doTerra's default size bottle is 5ml. Their oils aren't any better than say, Mountain Rose Herbs or Liberty - and sometimes NOT as good, per purity testing results. But, if she's paying for them, you can use them.

I was thinking the same thing. I would bet that if I made a batch of the doTerra EO and a batch of BB EO of the same scent, she couldn't tell the difference. And more than likely the BB EO would smell better in the soap.
I am just guessing here tho.

But if she thinks it makes her feel better, who am I to disagree??

Considering that I typically use 30-40 ml of EO for my 2 lb batches, its going to be super expensive for her.
I would make two, one with the same EO from any of the many high quality sources and ask her to tell the difference, but I'm mean about MLM's and their hype.

Flash point is the temperature an oil will vaporize and become ignitable by a spark. Flash point is important for suppliers to know for shipping. However, I agree the heat from saponification can be too hot for some EOs. Lye is even worse since it's so caustic.

You could HP the batch. I leave a little oil out and add the EOs to it so I can stir them in more easily. However, I've had very good luck with some EOs sticking in CP when I don't gel the batch. Just today I checked a CP bar I had made back in October. I used 23 g of a blend of 15x orange, lavender, geranium, fir needle and lemongrass in 33 oz. It still smells good and doesn't seem to have faded at all.
