What do you all do when you purchase a fo, get it home, and discovered you dislike it it?
I have 3 I am not fond of. I'm real finicky I suppose *sigh*. I contemplated reselling them obviously at a lower cost because I used very little amount of two of the three, but the price of shipping I assume would be outrageous and I would have to use FedEx correct? Any helpful suggestions are welcome!

Have you actually soaped them or are you judging oob? If you haven't tried them in something I suggest just trying a small test batch. When I have tried something and still don't like it I will sometimes keep it to blend with other fos or just make some wax melts to give away. I personally don't know how you would have to ship other than anything with a flash point under 200 has to be ground shipping.

I'm interested in the responses. I've just used up 2 oz bottles in a small batch of soap in the past. But right now I've got a few 4oz & 1 16 oz bottle I'm not going to use.

As for taking a loss, that is to be expected when reselling anything. UPS ground is only $8-$10 or so for a pound.

I mp one fo and the smell obviously is the same as oob. I used the second a small amount in a body butter concoction I made. It too smells just like oob. Haven't made my first cp soap yet, and now in a cast I am laid up a month. My batches will be 18 oz precure, so small enough for testing. I am a beginner and don't mind so much taking a hit on reselling. Just unsure if it's worth it. I really don't want to waste expensive oils making tons and toms of soaps with fragrance oils I dislike oob attempting to try and find a combo I will like enough to use. My third fo I thought I would like I received Friday, and upon realizing I wasn't too fond of it,I began experimenting with mixing it with other fragrances on a piece of toilet paper and sticking it in a baggie for half a day.

Still don't like it much. I did read that this third soaps much milder than it is oob, but I just don't know how much these fo's will morph abd turn into something that I really do enjoy. I suppose that's the chance we all take with buying them online having not smell them before.

I don't know if I would ever buy fos from anywhere other than reputable suppliers. I feel like it is too risky. I might be alone on that and hopefully you have good luck. I know that soaping is an expensive hobby and sometimes you end up wasting money unfortunately. Good luck ☺

Thx. I buy from reputable places, but I see how others online would question me as reputable. Maybe I'll soap a half oz at most. If I just can't bring myself to like it, I'll ask the brick and mortar soap shop down the road a ways if they'd like it...at a steep discount.
My mom got me almond soap by CST from tjmaxx, and I loved the scent. So I got almond fo from wsp...and it has a cherry undertone to it in my opinion. Don't know if it'll soap out that or not. I also found their omh a little, maybe...powdery...for my liking. I like it and kind of don't, know what I mean? Finally, the bb saffron honey was just too strong. I may mix it up and try a blend. I just didn't read hardly anything online or on here about the saffron honey. It sounded so interesting and unique, so I got in in spite of little info. I'm hoping I can mix it with some other things and come up with something unusual and something I will enjoy. Thank you again.

I purchased some oils from an Etsy seller (small quantities) and it was very useful to be able to sample oils I was interested in at a low cost.

LionPrincess: if the oils are over 200F flashpoint you can send them USPS which is pretty cheap (BB, Sweet Cakes, Natures Garden, SOS all send oils via USPS to me here in Hawaii).

I bough 16oz of a FO I absolutely hated. I did use it in a small batch of CP and it did improve some but not enough (still have nearly two pounds stinky soap). I ended up selling it for near what I payed. I shipped USPS but only because they couldn't find any regulations on FO and figured it was safe. I'm sure most post offices wouldn't let you get away with that.

If you decide to sell them the buyer pays the shipping not you. I would be interested in the Almond from WSP, and the Saffron. We all get stuck with fo's we do not like. Goes with the territory. Since I do sell I do not have to like them, just have to have customers that like it. Some that I think are fantastic smelling I cannot give away...:D

Everyone has different taste in fragrance, but I love the WSP Oatmeal Milk & Honey, to me it isn't powdery once it has been soaped, so you might want to try it in CP soap.

Honestly... I soap with them call it a limited edition and sell them - never to grace my soap room again! Believe it or not someone out there loves it.

Thx all! So new so no selling in the next yr or more, so that's out.
Tried looking into CL and saw one soaper wanting to trade lye for soaping oils. Will look into fo trades in the future on there, so Thx for the suggestion carabou!
Flashpoint on both are below 200, can talk to my small town usps and see but otherwise it's fed ex I believe Carolyn. under 200 deg fed ex only, right??? Will be in contact with you via pm tomorrow with photos, price, scent specifics, shipping rates to see if you're still interested. Thx for even considering it!
Can't type much more tonight, darn hand. Thx to all for help, advice and everything!

I would use the FOs anyway and give the soaps to other people. I would also see about donating the soaps to local shelters so that people can have something wonderful to bath in. I might not like the fragrance, but I know that others may (unless it's a novelty FO, then I'd toss it if I can't sell it).

seeing as I have not made my first batch of soap yet, I would not really feel comfortable making these and donating until a good 6 plus months of experience making several batches and being sure that they cure well and don't end up with dos and such.

but for future reference, this is an absolutely excellent idea that we all should consider! Don't like, can't sell, definitely donate! :)

I'm with Carolyn, I make quite a few I don't like at all but they sell. If something doesn't sell well I'll put it in the discontinued basket and sell it a lot cheaper and it usually flies then. I agree with the statement saying that a lot of times what a fragrance smells like in the bottle will change when making soap. I've had a bottle of a FO called Beach Baby I purchased 2 years ago on clearance at NG and did not like it at all, I decided to use it a couple months ago. OMG it's an awesome scent and has sold like crazy.....sad that I can't get anymore of it. It was 16 oz so I can get 4-5 batches out of it. Live and learn. It's a really fresh scent with just a touch of powder in the background.
